Bangladesh Television has
emerged as a powerful and effective mass media since its inception in
1964. BTV has stepped into its 39th year which aired its first
signal in black and white on 25th December 1964 as a Pilot
Television Project in then the East Pakistan. Transmission of the station
initially began from DIT (Presently RAJUK Bhavan) for four hours duration.
The organization was turned into an autonomous body in 1967. After
independence of the country in 1972, it was brought into the fold of a
full- fledged government department by absorbing its manpower and assets.
Offices and studios of Bangladesh Television were shifted to Rampura from
DIT building on 9th February 1975.
Bangladesh Television (BTV)
is a state owned channel that stepped into the arena of electronic media
with objectives like dissemination of information, expansion of education,
motivational programmes to expedite development works and entertainment.
BTV is putting out drama, documentaries, musical and educational
programmes and events of national & international importance as well
as 14 bulletins in Bangla and English languages daily. The average
transmission time of BTV daily stands at 14 hours and it is carried out
through one Centre, one Sub Centre, Fourteen relay stations. 93 percent of
the country's population is under the coverage area of BTV.
92 percent of the
programmes aired are produced by BTV while it procures foreign programmes
in the interest of presenting viewers with production of international
standard. BTV has embarked upon an ambitions programme of Satellite
Transmission of its daily air time.
In the context of
Bangladesh's social perspective, the organization has earned the trust
of its viewers for which the producers, artists and supporting manpower
deserve commendation for their coordinated efforts, creativity and sincere
devotion. Bangladesh Television takes pride in recollecting the memories
of 1971 when the organization inspired the nation during our great war of
liberation.
New Era
| BTV started Color
Transmission in 1980. Since then the state-run
media is pursuing a forward looking journey. |

Till 2003, as many as 17
relay stations, located all over the country, have been established. Thus
93 percent geographical area of the country has come under transmission
coverage.
At present BTV's morning
transmission hour expands between 7-30 to 9-30 Saturday through Thursday
on week days. It again goes on air at 12 noon and continues till 12
mid-night on these week days.
BTV transmits two and half
hours additional programs in its morning segment on Fridays. Chittagong
sub-station airs one hour programmes everyday which are locally produced.
Exchange Programmes
BTV exchanges programme and
news with other broadcasting organization on a regular basis. It is an
important member of SAARC Audio Visual Exchange Programme ( SAVE) and
exchanges programmes among the broadcasters of the region.
Bangladesh as a developing
and peace-loving country has always extended its hands of cooperation with
other nations.
BTV is an important member
of several international media bodies. As a member of Asian Broadcasting
Union (ABU) Bangladesh Television joined the Satellite News Exchange
programme under ABU when it was launched in 1984.
Asia Vision
BTV is exchanging
visual news items everyday with Asiavision (AVN) members and
has made valuable contribution in its operation. BTV earned
several AVN awards for its timely and speedy despatch of important
news items those had hit the global news headlines. AVN has
also trained up a good number of BTV news personnel.
As a mark of
its commitment to regional and global broadcasting networks,
BTV has set up a Digital Ground Station with the help of ABU
in 30th September 2001.
A fleet of professional
newsmen with a blend of experience and enthusiasm are working round the
clock with endless determination to quench the thirst of the viewers.
Bangladesh Television is
