The
Siamese twins, Hasan and Hossain, of Khulna were separated
after a successful operation at the Islami Bank Hospital,
Dhaka yesterday. A team of surgeons and doctors led by Dr.
Ruhul Amin, Associate Professor and paediatrics surgeon of
BSMMU conducted the operation. Islami Bank Hospital, a
subsidiary organisation of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited
is bearing all expenses including operation and treatment
of the twins. Other doctors were: Dr Shahadat Hossain, Dr
Didarul Islam, Dr Mostaq Ahmed, Dr Tasnim Ara, Dr Abu
Zafor, Dr Wahab Khan, Dr Lutful Kabir, Dr Ahmad Mortuza,
Dr Atiar Rahman, Dr Abdur Rahman, Dr ABM Maksudul Alam, Dr
Abdul Jalil, Dr Zakir Hossain, Dr MA Jaigirdar and Dr
Harun-ur-Rashid. Earlier the twins were admitted to Khulna
Islami Bank Hospital after 22 days of their birth through
a Caesarian operation at a clinic at village Raghunathpur
of Dumuria upazila in Khulna district. The twins were born
to Jasmin Begum, wife of Abdul Halim, a rickshaw van
driver. The couple already has a five-year old daughter.
Jesmin Begum, wife of rickshaw van-puller Abdul Halim,
gave birth to the twin boys at a clinic at Hasanpur in
Khulna on April 18. They were later shifted to IBH in
Khulna. Dr Ruhul Amin along with a team of doctors had
gone to Khulna to conduct the operation. But, one of the
twins caught severe respiratory problem forcing the
doctors to stop the operation there. The conjoined twins
along with their parents were later flown in to Dhaka.
